New "strut rod bearings" offered for our cars! | Maverick/Comet Forums

Mar 12, Messages: Now they are available to the public and I just wanted to let everyone know about them. They replace the stock strut rod bushing with a spherical aircraft bearing. These will work best for drag racers or road racers but do have some benefits for the everyday driver. Let me know if you are interested and I will get you the information you need to get a set. Not cheap but high performance never has been!! It's hard to see in the pics but they say "CALVERT RACING" on them as they were designed by the same people that make Cal Trac bars.

CometGT , Nov 16, Apr 27, Messages: North Carolina, Triangle Area Vehicle: Stephen, I'm not sure that I understand the benefits. Is there still circulatory movement of the rod without any front to back movement? It seems like there would be some leverage type movement, I guess it allows for that. This allows for free movement of the front suspension with NO resistance.

With the rubber bushings there is ALOT of resistance to allow the suspension to do what it's supposed to do. This is just one part of the whole puzzle and is one of the reasons my car transfers weight so good.

The spherical bearing is "sandwiched" between the aluminum plates, the bearing allows for free up and down movement with ZERO front to rear deflection under hard braking or when the front tires touch back down, exactly what you want for a road race car or drag car.

Does it still have rubber bushings in it? I too, would like to know the benefits. I get it now. Perhaps that is why my front end seems so much stiffer now with the polygraphite bushings up front.

A server error occurred.

It's really tight, although not as tight as yours would be. But what does it do under VERY hard braking? The bushing, no matter what material it is made out of "gives".

This "give" is very undesireable in a road race car. But rubber, polyurethane, polygraphite and the like are just fine for a daily driver. These are for those racers that are looking for every last advantage. The same principles apply for the upper and lower control arm bushings. Gent , Nov 16, Ivy does have something similar to this but I don't think his uses the stock strut rod. Some classes require the use of a stock "unmodified" strut rod.
