The Department of Commerce is opening the door for shops to extend Christmas trading hours to 7am every day except Sunday. Myer Perth will open from 9am and its other stores at Morley, Karrinyup, Joondalup, Garden City and Carousel will open from 8.

David Jones will open from 9am next week and then 8am for last-minute shoppers three days before Christmas. Westfield Carousel has also snubbed the extended trading hours, choosing to open from 9am next week and changing to 8am during the Christmas week.

Extended trading hours commence this Friday and include an earlier 8am opening on Sundays and a later 6pm closing on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are some department stores and shopping centres choosing to conform to the earlier trading hours. Starting this Friday Coles, Woolworths, Target and Kmart will open earlier from 7am to 9pm during weekdays and extend its hours over the weekend.

Claremont Quarter will also take advantage of the extended trading hours opening from 7am to 9pm this Friday. Appliances and white goods specialist Winning Group chief executive John Winning said his company will open from 7am.
